"Rare Mortar For Fard - France - Undetermined Manufacturer - 19th Century"
Small circular porcelain container with a hollow, semi-spherical base, flared towards the edge with a rounded base, resting on a slight annular heel. Its height, less than 5 cm, corresponds to the classic dimensions of the makeup mortars used at the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th. These objects were intended for cosmetic use: very small quantities of powder or paste were crushed in them using a small pestle, often intended for the manufacture of makeup or ointments. HARD porcelainWhite background decorated with geometric cartouches delimited by golden frames, octagonal and oval in shape, alternately housing two types of floral decorations, one shows a pair of stylized roses in shades of pink, highlighted with green leaves; the other, a schematic floral motif composed of blue and red flowers on green stems, in a vertical oval cartouche. The interior and the upper edge are left white, punctuated by some traces of wear and micro-chips, testifying to the former use of the piece.
