Jan van den Hoecke (1611–1651) was a 17th-century Flemish painter, active during the Baroque period.
He is mainly known for his religious and mythological scenes and his role in spreading the Rubenian style throughout Europe.
He stayed in Rome around 1632, where he frequented the circle of expatriate Flemish painters. He then entered the service of Emperor Ferdinand III in Vienna, where he became court painter. Around 1644, he continued his career in the service of Archduke Leopold William of the Spanish Netherlands.
He was strongly influenced by Rubens in composition, color and monumentality as well as by Van Dyck in the production of portraits with an elegant, refined and expressive style.
In addition, he incorporated elements of Italian classicism influenced by Raphael, the Carracci and Roman painters into his compositions.
His style combines clarity, classical balance and baroque power.
His works can now be seen in museums in Vienna, Antwerp, Brussels, Budapest, Madrid and Prague
