Jacky De Maeyer was born in Ostend in 1938. He has his studio in his hometown and in Gordes (France).
Since 1960, his work has been presented in more than 300 solo and group exhibitions in Belgium and abroad, including the United States, Switzerland, France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Greece, and Korea.
Several monumental sculptures can be seen in various public places.
The stylized forms evoke, on the one hand, an archaic world of signs and symbols and, on the other hand, a common spirit with the cultures of Africa and Oceania.
In his oak sculptures, Jacky De Maeyer draws inspiration from the organic world, stylizing it into forms that are a synthesis between the organic and the geometric; ovals, pyramids, spheres are constructed vertically in undulating or straight lines, either in a totemic symmetry or using an asymmetry that creates a harmonious tension.
