Unique piece by the Belgian sculptor Jules Dewaele, better known as PIA MANU.
As a great collector of fossils and trilobites, Pia Manu takes a fossil pewter form and layers it on the table top in combination with slate mosaics. The table base is made of oxidized metal, an oxidation process carried out by the artist to give the metal a unique texture and patina.
Signed on the top Pia Manu.
Acquired directly from the artist in 1983 by the previous owner. Representative of the Flemish Brutalists. He models or sculpts primitive forms with materials of powerful or anti-poetic texture (as he calls them) using concrete, fossils, metals, glass, earth and slate.
Dimensions H 30 x W 160 x D 60cm.
