"Guillotine Secretary In Cuban Mahogany, Louis XVI Period – Late 18th Century"
This magnificent Louis XVI style solid Cuban mahogany guillotine secretary dating from the end of the 18th century is a true jewel of cabinetmaking. It opens with two glass doors, revealing two adjustable shelves on racks, lockable thanks to an authentic and functional lock, accompanied by its Louis XVI brass entrances. Below, a drawer decorated with ring handles and a lock with entry adds a touch of elegance. The secretary part opens with a flap mounted on pivots. The interior of this flap, dressed in a remade green leather with a central gilded motif and vignettes, gives access to six small drawers with brass knobs, one of which is compartmentalized, and a reserve opening with a door with a lock. These elements are topped with four boxes, completing the storage offer. The lower part of this piece of furniture offers a shelf behind a double door with a lock also original. The uprights of this secretary are attached fluted half-columns, ending in feet with ringed spindles. The cornice is discreet and highlighted by a frieze of crenellations, adding a final touch of sophistication. This secretary is not only a functional piece of furniture, but also a collector's item, testifying to the know-how and elegance of the Louis XVI style. *********Period: Late 18th Excellent condition.
