Gothic Cassone Chest, Veneto 15th Century

In solid walnut, with characteristic dovetail joints clearly visible on the sides, chest, limited proportions, trimmed on the front by elaborate windows with double opening device. On the sides, it is fitted with handles and perforated rosette plates with fine phytomorphic motifs in late Gothic style as on the front. The internal face of the lid, with band hinges inlaid in the wood, was covered at the end by the unfortunately missing fretwork medallions and traces remain. It also appears soberly inlaid with geometric patterns in boxwood and walnut. Inside, it has a series of compartments listed which are also light wires.
