Interesting portrait box in Martin varnish with decoration on the lid of a miniature on ivory representing a young man with a wig, wearing a pink jacket, a blue waistcoat and a silk tie tied around his neck. Pomponne rim of the box and filling pattern made with Martin varnish. Base in papier-mâché on a red tortoiseshell background with black lacquer applied as an undercoat. The latter covered by a geometric decoration of coppery orange squares. Collection label N/ 1581 Condition: small loss on 2mm, small oxidation on the lid Bibliography: Monika Kopplin, Les secrets de la lacquer française - le vernis Martin, 2014 (temporary exhibition held at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris).
