Beautiful cotton fichu printed with a woodblock and wax resist for the rust brown background, dating from the early Romantic period. Decorated with seeds of inclined flowering botehs, framed by a row of larger Boteh.
The inside of the Boteh is printed in red, pink, blue, yellow and green obtained by superimposing pinch yellow on indigo blue. The design is highlighted with vermiculations and fine oblique veins in imitation of Kashmir shawl weaving. Very fine cotton with two finely rolled and hand-sewn edges from the period. manufactory not identified but most likely Alsatian. Perfect condition and colours for its age.
