"Italian Landscapes - Jacob De Heusch"
Pair (2) of oils on panel characteristic of the work of Jacob de Heusch (1657-1701). Jacob de Heusch was a Dutch painter who visited Rome during the last quarter of the 17th century. This artist, fascinated by the Roman countryside and its environs, used his own sketches to compose picturesque views and freely designed landscapes incorporating buildings, bridges and architectural whims. Both panels are signed "Heusch". The Roman bridge at lower left. The composition with the tree at lower right (much more clearly). On the reverse of the panels are two large typescript labels from the Brian L. Koetser Gallery, which has a long-standing reputation for the Old Master Trade. The Koetser Gallery in London specialized in Old Master paintings with a particular emphasis on the Northern Renaissance and the Dutch Golden Age.
