JEAN VICTOR BERTIN AND STUDIO
Gardener in the Outbuildings of a Castle
Jean Victor Bertin (1767-1842), a French landscape painter born at the end of the 18th century, was a student of the Neoclassical painter Pierre Henri de Valenciennes. He created numerous landscapes and views of the countryside imbued with great poetry. Mastering color and light, he possessed a remarkable ability to accurately capture the atmospheres and moods of nature.
Favoring shades of green and blue, he painted vegetation, old walls, roofs, and sunlit house facades with harmony and skill.
In keeping with his work, he presents here a charming painting depicting a gardener working in the outbuildings of a castle.
Beautiful period gilt frame, restored.
