"François Alexandre Pernot, The Ruins"

Romantic school of the 19th century, signed "FAPernot" François Alexandre Pernot (1793–1865) was a 19th-century French painter and draftsman, renowned for his romantic landscapes and historical scenes. Born and died in Wassy, Haute-Marne, he was trained by renowned masters such as Jean-Victor Bertin, Louis Hersent and Regnault. He exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon from 1819 to 1863. Pernot traveled throughout Europe, notably to Scotland in 1824, where he met the writer Walter Scott. His works inspired by these travels were presented at the Salon of the same year. Some of his works can be found in museums, notably in Chartre. Good general condition, some foxing and soiling to be noted. Image dimensions: 26 / 18.5 cm
