"1818 Los Angeles Silver Medal"
1818 silver medal struck to reward the most advanced students of the Elementary School of the City of LOS ANGELES under the responsibility of Mr. José Ignacio Paz. Oval medal, showing on its obverse the two columns of the State on a pedestal, an oval decorated with the Golden Fleece and war trophies, and in the center the busts of Kings Ferdinand VII and Isabella of Braganza. At the foot of the columns, the two worlds surmounted by an imperial crown. In the center of the pedestal, the coat of arms of Mexico, and on each side representations of the sciences and the arts. In the background on the right a bastion and on the left a ship at sea. Around the legend "PREMIO ADQUIRIDO EN EL ESTUDIO ACADÉMICO DEL PROFESOR EXAMINADO Y EXAMINADOR D. JOSÉ IGNACIO PAZ". The engraver Francisco Gordillo, The medals, engraved in silver, were financed by Juan González de Campo, army commissioner and treasurer of Puebla de los Ángeles, to reward the best students of the Academic Study of First Education of the master José Ignacio Paz.
