Jean Signovert, Oil on canvas signed lower right and titled on the back "the bird". Beautiful abstract composition on a gray and black base. Format 46/38cm in general condition, we will note a yellowing of the varnish. Jean Signovert is an abstract painter, draftsman and engraver associated with the School of Paris, born in 1919 and died in 1981 in Paris. After studying at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Saint-Etienne, he met Aimé Maeght in 1946, who exhibited his works in his gallery. He was also an engraver, and worked among others for and with Braque, Poliakoff, Arp, and Fautrier. His painted works are characterized by plain backgrounds on which he places geometric shapes connected by lines. He was appointed professor at the Ecole nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in 1980, and died shortly after.
