"Rare Hispano-moorish Lustre "pomp" Plate From The End Of The 15th Century."
Rare example of a Hispano-Moorish "pomp" plate from the prestigious Valencian ceramic production of Manises which had cutting-edge workshops in the firing of lustre decorations. This is an example of excellent workmanship, especially with regard to the beauty of the copper-coloured lustre and the fact that it is from a fairly early period, and in fact, by the type of decoration with slender and elegant vegetal racemes between pine cones and other phytomorphic elements, we can date this plate between the last quarter of the 15th century and the early 16th century. In addition to the beauty of the stylised decorations, the fully lustre-filled areas leading to the central pulpit are fascinating.
As evidence of its precociousness, the decorations on the bottom of the plate can be compared, which are very similar to some documented in specialist books on medieval and 15th-century Valencian ceramics.
Plate diameter 40.5cm.
The conditions are excellent, because the plate is intact and has no breaks or fissures. Unfortunately, however, due to reckless display solutions, a hole was made on the brim and a rather invasive metal attachment was also applied, also through a hole.
The carved frame on which it is mounted is from the early 20th century and its diameter is 56cm.
We enclose a certificate of authenticity with the sale.
