Jean Caumont, obtained his master's letters in Paris in 1774 and established his workshop and his store on rue Traversiére. He actively participated in the Revolution and was elected justice of the peace at the commercial court. His works, in the Transition and Louis XVI styles, present a great variety both in their manufacture and in the materials used. If we know of his cylinder desks, bouillotte tables, pedestal tables... Caumont excelled above all in the manufacture of secretaries and chests of drawers. Their compositions are often sought after, elegant and full of finesse. We find, in his production, furniture with mahogany or satin veneer, and marquetry of colored wood, decorated with landscapes, flowers, branches or musical instruments often finely inlaid with ivory or mother-of-pearl. Around 1795, Jean Caumont ceased his activities and his son Claude Emmanuel succeeded him in his workshop. **JME hallmark of the Jurande
