Emile Wegelin – Montagny (rhône) – Gouache – Dated And Signed

Beautiful gouache by Emile Wegelin depicting a hilly landscape located in the commune of Montagny, in the Rhône department. The work was created in 1957. It is dated and located on the back of the mountain, where we can also see the painter's stamp.
The foreground is occupied by a meadow dotted with yellow flowers. Below rise several buildings characteristic of the countryside of this region. In the background, the light plays on the hillsides and clouds race across the sky.
The landscape is cheerful and lively.
The work is signed lower right.
The work is in excellent condition. It is placed under glass and passepartout, in a modern gilded wood frame, also in excellent condition.

This painting was painted by Emile Wegelin, a Lyon painter known for his landscapes, done in gouache or oil. He favors mountainous landscapes and rivers. Before taking up painting, Emile Wegelin was a top-flight rower, winning a silver medal at the 1900 Olympic Games in Paris in the coxed four event.
