KERVEGUEN (Georges de). The Serpent Bearer. Height (including base): 505 mm. Late 19th century bronze with gilded patina, signed on the base G. [Georges de Kerveguen] resting on a red veined marble base. ''Exhibited at the Salon des Artistes français from 1887 to 1893. Died in 1897''. (in Bénézit). Unusual figure of a draped young woman supporting a nest of snakes; beautifully executed. Bénézit VI, Dictionary of Painters and Sculptors, p. 199. Formerly mounted as a lamp. In order to restore its original use, re-electrification and globe or tulip are required! Some scattered oxidation spots and superficial alterations affecting the patina. Small angular accident on the marble base. Otherwise, good condition.
