The Red Square with the cathedral of San Basilio
Watercolor on paper, cm 30,5X47,3
This watercolor on paper artwork shows a view of the city of Moscow, especially the Red Square, the main square of the Russian capital and one of the largest squares in the world. The square is taken from behind the Museum of History, thus managing to immortalize the cathedral of Saint Basil. The large square is crowded with people and chariots, and bordered on its sides by the imposing buildings of the Kremlin and GUM. A multitude of spires and domes are scattered in the background, disappearing into the clouds in the sky. The work, made in watercolor, is dominated by the presence of light colors that lighten the monumentality of the buildings surrounding the square.
