"German Romantic School (c. 1850) - Grindelwald"
- Oil on canvas.- The force of meteorological phenomena and the superior sensation of the sublime merge in this powerfully romantic landscape. The force of the sometimes contradictory sensations associated with spring coexist in a beautiful pictorial struggle across the entire length and breadth of the canvas: the inexorable melting of the streams is, ultimately, the slow agony of the snow rising to the glacial peaks; the fog clinging to the forest is only the last veil before the summer sun. As in "Winterreise," the fragrant promise of spring seems both immediate and distant, and the allusions to a changing nature confuse the frozen and intrepid viewer. The mutable and the permanent, the transitory and the eternal meet, grapple and embrace in the Swiss valleys through the sensitive and emotional brushstroke of an artist enamored with the powerful allure of romanticism. - Image dimensions without frame: 153 x 102 cm / 163 x 112 cm with beautiful frame.
