Marius Bosc (1940) - Gossip
Oil on panel. Hand-signed. In this Fauvist-inspired oil on panel, two sensual women, dressed in haute couture and adorned with extravagant hairstyles, exchange confidences and secrets in the bar of the Plaza Hotel. This work by Marius Bosc exudes the feminine eloquence of Mary Cassatt's paintings, but also the sophisticated and suggestive evocation of the early 20th-century European avant-garde, and Hollywood glamour. Marius Bosc moves in that fluid border zone where the rigor of the Old World blends into the shimmering colors of the Pacific. Although his brushwork inherits the structure of the European figurative avant-garde—that almost architectural structure, inherited from a bold Post-Impressionism—his soul is, by his own admission, captivated by the Californian light. It is not the soft grey light of the Seine, but this harsh, electric and relentless light that devours everything on the west coast.- Image dimensions without frame: 47 x 55 cm / 58 x 65 cm with exclusive custom frame.
