Object description :

"Pair Of Wall Lights With Winged Putto Heads, Attributed To Claude Galle"
A remarkable pair of gilt bronze sconces, demonstrating the meticulous work of Claude Galle, one of the most eminent Parisian bronze makers of the period.

Each sconce features a unique symmetrical composition with three very finely scrolled light arms, resting on a base adorned with a mascaron depicting a winged putto. This motif, typical of the neoclassical style, evokes the influence of antique models rediscovered during the century.

The finely chiseled bobeches rest on petal-shaped cups, lending a great lightness to the ensemble.

At the top, a vase adorned with foliage rests on a rectangular base like the pedestal of an antique sculpture. It completes this refined work, combining elegance and history.

The quality of the carving, the richness of the details of each shape, and the balance of the composition justify an attribution to Claude Galle, purveyor to the imperial court and a major figure in the Louis XVI and Empire styles.

Beautiful original gilding
