"Lwena Statuette"
Wooden ritual statuette from the Lwena cultural group of Congo. It represents a seated female figure with stockings on her knees and scarifications. The cylindrical base is integral with the rest of the statue and appears to have been "sawn" or "cut," which could mean that this object was originally the handle of a cane. Furthermore, the patina is deep, indicating the object's age (first half of the 20th century) and use. This statue is authentic and has not been restored. It comes from a Toulouse collection.
