Charming late 19th – early 20th century French-made alarm clock with exceptional Chinoiserie-style decoration. The metal case is painted with red lacquer, adorned with finely detailed oriental scenes and enhanced with vibrant colors. The exotic motifs evoke the European craze for Asian art during the Belle Époque. The enameled dial features Roman numerals and a small subdial for the alarm function. The mechanism is hand-wound, with inscriptions in French: “Système perfectné”, “Aig. durée”, “Réveil”, “Nouvelle dépôt brevete”. The structure rests on a richly decorated gilt bronze base. The upper bell, in patinated metal, retains a beautiful original patina. Numbered on the back: 13997 R.
