Battle of March 30, 1814. On the heights of Saint-Chaumont, an artillery post, served by students of the École Polytechnique, fought a fierce battle and was saved from death by General Sokolnicki. The Battle of Paris took place on March 30, 1814. The last battle of the French campaign, it pitted the French Imperial Army (40,000 men) against the European Allied forces (100,000 men). The French defeat marked the end of the reign of Napoleon I, who abdicated after the capitulation.
