Christ On The Cross, Anonymous (1770-1790)

Late 18th-century painting depicting Christ crucified on Golgotha with John the Evangelist on the right. Mary is depicted on the left, wearing a blue robe. Mary Magdalene kneels at the foot of the cross, averting her eyes from the dying Christ. A few rare rays of sunlight appear through the threatening storm clouds, suggesting the presence of God.
