"Netsuke - Two Mushrooms - Japan - 19th Century"
Wooden netsuke depicting two mushrooms, a small one placed and inverted on the cap of another larger one. Natural himotoshi thanks to the curved foot of the larger mushroom.
Japan, 19th century.
Note the realism of the gills and the surface of the larger cap, which is particularly well polished.
Also note two cracks in the wood, one in the cap of the large mushroom, and a more discreet one on the cap of the small one. Diameter: 4.8 cm.
