Wooden netsuke depicting a Shinto temple servant, holding in his left hand a folded umbrella in which he shelters and in his right hand a lantern.
Japan, 19th century.
Good condition, beautiful and significant patina of use.
Note the unusual positioning of one of the himotoshi, in the folds of the garment at the bottom of the character's left sleeve.
