"Netsuke - Shojobo, The King Of The Tengu - 19th Century - Manju - Ivory"
An ivory manju netsuke depicting Shojobo, the king of the tengu, in shishiaibori (counter-relief engraving). Note the power of the sovereign's expression and the finesse of the engraving, particularly visible in his facial hair.
Japan, late Edo period (1603-1868).
Good condition, cracks on the back of the manju.
