The painting I am presenting to you is an oil on canvas by Gaston Larrieu, entitled “Cadaquès – Spain”, measuring 65 x 49 cm unframed and 81 x 60 cm framed. The style is typical of post-war figurative lyrical abstraction, with a vigorous application of palette knife paint, bright colors, and a dynamic evocation of boats in a Mediterranean harbor—in this case, Cadaquès, a famous Catalan village notably associated with Salvador Dalí. Gaston Larrieu was a French painter active in the second half of the 20th century. He is known for his marine compositions, stylized harbors, and vibrantly colored landscapes. His signature is recognizable by its fluid line, often affixed in a lower corner. Superb oil on canvas representing the emblematic port of Cadaquès, a village on the Costa Brava, in a very expressive modernist composition.
