It is difficult to locate the scene more precisely: the figures sitting in front of a house, all dressed in white, as well as the large date palm, evoke the Maghreb. On the other hand, the style of the houses and the church in the background are reminiscent of the south of France.
In any case, the whole is filled with light, in the sky and on the facades of the houses. The scene is captured from a high angle, from the top of a steep street.
The work is signed, in Cyrillic, lower right. It is in very good condition. It is offered in a modern frame, also in very good condition.
The artist
Yuri Krotov is a Russian painter born in 1964 in the Rostov-on-Don region, in southern Russia. From childhood, he showed a precocious talent for drawing, which led him to attend the Grekov Art School in Rostov, then to continue his training at the prestigious Surikov Academy of Fine Arts in Moscow. There, he studied classical painting, developing a deep taste for Impressionism, figurative art, and the 19th-century masters.
In the 1990s, as Russia opened up internationally, Krotov attracted the attention of Western gallery owners. He began exhibiting in Europe, particularly in France, Germany, and England, where his work was very well received. Krotov is best known for his scenes of everyday life, intimate portraits, luminous landscapes, and soft interiors. His style is characterized by a supple and vibrant brushstroke, a great mastery of natural light, and a subtle palette, often dominated by warm tones. He draws on the spirit of the French Impressionists while retaining a typically Russian sensibility.
Today, Yuri Krotov continues his career between Russia and Europe. He is considered one of the most talented contemporary Russian painters of his generation, appreciated for his sensitive and poetic view of the world.
