Beautiful pastel signed lower right Marie Laforge, and dated 1905 (or 1906?). This portrait represents Juliette Ferry d'Andreis (see photo of the annotation on the back of the pastel), born in 1879 (Juliette Marie Roidot) and died in 1938. She was the wife of the collector Léon Alfred Marie Ferry d'Andreis (1872-1952). Source: INHA and Geneanet. Period frame. Marie Laforge (born Pauline Henriette Marie Gaudo-Paquet in Pontcharra on May 24, 1865 and died in 1942) is a French painter and miniaturist. Marie Laforge was a student of Gabrielle Debillemont-Chardon (1860-1957), miniaturist painter, and Jules Lefebvre (1834-1912), Tony Robert-Fleury (1837-1912), Marcel Baschet (1862-1941) and François Schommer (1850-1935). A member of the Society of French Artists since 1889, she taught her art in Paris at the Académie Julian. She exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1889 to 1921. She also participated in the Royal Society of Miniature Painters in London in 1910. In 1903, she received the 3rd class medal at the Salon des Artistes Français. In 1920, she received the gold medal at the Salon des Artistes Français. Her most notable students were Alice Bastide, Léonie Humbert-Vignot and Laurence Delobel-Faralicq.
