Wooden netsuke depicting Fukurokuju smiling and seated, holding a tama (sacred pearl representing wisdom and knowledge) in his right hand. Fukurokuju is one of the Seven Deities of Happiness in Shinto mythology. He is the god of wealth, longevity and wisdom.

Japan, Late 18th / early 19th century.

Good general condition and beautiful patina.
Note, however, a small lack on the toes of the deity's left foot. µ
