"Netsuke - Mermaid Wrestling With An Octopus - Ivory - Japan - Meiji"
Netsuke in tinted ivory depicting a mermaid struggling with an octopus among the sea waves. It is amusing to note that the fight is taking place around a bottle and a sake cup, indicating that the creatures are undoubtedly fighting in a state of inebriation.
Japan, Meiji period (1868-1916).
Good condition, note however a small restoration between the junction of the mermaid's tail and the wave.
Natural himotoshi under the base in the hollow of a wave.
