"Simon Zana Tunisian Artist "
Still life representing a tabletop on which rests a mortar, two lemons in a basket, an onion and a small straw-covered bottle. It is framed in a molded and white-painted wooden frame which must be its original frame. It is signed lower left and dated 64. Without a frame, it measures 46x38 cm. Simon ZANA was born in Tunisia in 1928 where he began his studies at the School of Fine Arts in Tunis. He then moved to France where he moved from knife painting, typical of the 1960s in France, to post-symbolist figurative painting. He exhibited in many European countries, North America and Japan. He died on October 5, 2024 at the age of 96. A website is dedicated to him where a portrait from the same period is reproduced.
