"Montmartre By Gen Paul"
Color aquatint depicting Rue des Saules by the famous painter Gen Paul. Eugène Paul was born in Montmartre in 1895 and enlisted at the start of the First World War, returning with one leg. He trained as an etcher with Eugène Delatre and followed the advice of Maurice Utrillo, Juan Gris, and Maurice Vlaminck. His first paintings and etchings, executed between 1919 and 1924, were signed under the pseudonym Jean Terlade. The etching is under glass, signed lower right, and titled Rue des Saules upper left.
