André Hallet (Liège 1890 – Kisenyi 1959)
Watercolor on paper.
Condition: good, nothing to report.
Initially destined for a career in industry, André Hallet entered the Academy of Fine Arts in Liège at the age of 24. After traveling throughout Europe, he discovered Africa in 1934. In 1947, he settled on the shores of Lake Kivu, where he painted until his death in 1959.
This work presents a decorative panorama depicting a colony of aquatic birds on the edge of a tropical lake: two pink pelicans surrounded by cormorants and gulls in a lush landscape.
The composition is notable for its fresh, vibrant palette.
