"Around 1910: The Citadel Of Corte In Corsica "
Spectacular view of the Citadel of Corte, located in the center of Corsica, painted between the 10s and 20s by Marco de Gastyne. The site is particularly impressive, on a high plateau in the center of the island, surrounded by mountains on all sides. The Citadel overlooks the town of Corte, symbol of the rich history of "Kalliste". Marco de Gastyne (1889-1982) is an artist with multiple talents. Prix de Rome in 1911, resident of the Villa Medecis from 1911 to 1913, he began a career as a painter, and won the Eugène Thirion Prize. Aware of the new potential of the emerging 7th art, he began a career as a filmmaker, first successful with silent films, then moved on to talking films in the 1930s. With this new approach to filmmaking, his success faded and he returned to painting for the end of his life, continuing to shoot a few documentaries on painting. The sober layout, the large flat areas are already reminiscent of Art Deco, although it could have been produced during his stay as a resident, the painting bursts with a powerful light, like the Mediterranean sky. The painting, on the back, bears the Fine Arts stamp, likely evidence of a shipment as a resident of the Villa, as well as exhibition labels at the Salon. It is in perfect condition, probably cleaned a few years ago. Except for Paris, please provide a shipping quote.
