"Around 1800: Roman Ruins"
Lovely little ink wash, made in the late 18th or early 19th century, depicting a countryside landscape overlooked by the ruins of a Roman temple. The artist has confidently sketched the peaceful atmosphere that emanates from the place. Certainly one of his artists, making his grand tour, he is inspired by Hubert Robert. The drawing is framed by a pretty early 19th century baguette mounted with keys.
