"Ceramic Planter Attributed To Massier In The Style Of Ballin - Height 85 Cm"
Sublime shower-shaped planter on a glazed ceramic stand attributed to the famous Massier factory, heir to a tradition of excellence in Vallauris. This exceptional piece is inspired by the ornamental creations of Claude Ballin, Louis XIV's goldsmith, whose bronze models made in 1673 are preserved at the Château de Versailles. Admire the imposing handles depicting winged sphinxes, elegantly standing and resting on the horns of the expressive mascarons adorning the sides of the vase. The body is also adorned with a delicate vine garland. A potentially complete frieze of the signs of the zodiac runs beneath the vine branches, with ten distinct symbols visible, the last two hidden behind the handles. Pearls run all the way around, highlighting this frieze and delimiting the space left for the central coat of arms with a sword adorned with foliage. The shower foot is adorned with water leaves and the bottom of the vase begins its ceremonial decoration with a beautiful frieze of gadroons. The vibrant enamel in shades of turquoise and brown highlights the relief of this unique decoration. This Massier planter is more than just a decorative object; it is a testament to the refinement of an era and the talent of a renowned manufacturer. Height: 85 cm Diameter: 45 cm Very good condition
