"Late 18th Century - Base For Anatomical Study Model In Wood And Handwritten Paper"
Base for anatomical study model in marbled softwood, with legends on handwritten plates on paper applied to the 4 faces of the prism. Late 18th century.
The 4 cards have legends relating to the nervous system, skeleton, man with exposed nerves and human skull, with sequential numbering.
The base certainly housed miniature models for the purpose of showing classes of students the various parts of the body systems for study purposes.
Currently (as then) ideal for housing a skull or other memento mori-themed elements, but in general perfect inside a wunderkammer as a base for any object.
Some cards show wear. One in particular is torn just under half.
An object of great charm and flavor, extremely versatile.
