Superb miniature on ivory of great finesse of execution: presumed portrait of Charlotte Corday (1768-1793) by Pierre Noel VIOLET (1749-1819), revolutionary period. This artist was miniaturist of King Louis XVI. He emigrated to England in 1794. Miniatures by him can be found in Paris at the Louvre Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Walters Art Gallery, Baltimore, the Albertina in Vienna and in the British royal collections. Perfect condition. In a blackened wood and gilded brass frame. Dimensions: 5.5 X 4.5 cm for the miniature, and 11 X 9.5 cm for the frame.
