"Ausonius: Opera Edition Jean De Blaeu 1671"
Beautiful Dutch edition, strong in octavo, by Jean de Blaeu dated 1671, of the complete works of the Latin poet Ausonius. Born in 310 in Bordeaux, he became famous as a man of letters, politician, and famous pedagogue, close to the emperor Gratian. His writings would greatly inspire the men of the Renaissance. Jean de Blaeu (1596 - 1673) was a famous cartographer, and a great publisher. His atlas is one of the monuments of publishing and geography of the 17th century. He is probably the most important publisher of the century. A fire destroyed his printing press in 1672 which did not recover from this tragedy. This is why this work is one of the last published by this master printer. Our copy, covered in a beautiful original vellum binding, has reached us in perfect condition.
