Michel Paquet was born in Thetford Mines, Quebec in 1948. He began his career in science and psychopedagogy before training in visual arts at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières and later in art history at Laval University in Quebec City.
He first became known as an abstract painter, later focusing on figurative art. His style is distinguished by a purification of subjects and colors. He works in acrylic, oil, gouache and pencil drawing.
He died suddenly in 1990, but left behind a large body of work, many of which are now in museums. Some of his paintings can be found at the Sherbrooke Museum of Fine Arts and the Pierre Boucher Museum in Trois-Rivières, as well as in the collection of the Canadian Institute of Quebec, among others.
