"Early 15th Century Old Master Preparatory Sketch Of Saint Sebastian"
An Old Master preparatory sketch of great simplicity and precocity, depicting Saint Sebastian hanging from a tree and pierced by arrows, surrounded by a monk, an angel, and two other saints. Executed in ink on hand-laid , unsized paper, this work was produced during the first quarter of the 15th century in Venice, Italy. From the well-documented 18th and 19th-century English collections of the painter Thomas Hudson and the art dealer William Mayor, the latter of whom published a work on the works of the Old Masters and their various schools in 1875. Presented in a contemporary frame with a double black mat.
