Originally from Bordeaux, Oswald Heidbrinck was one of the great designers and illustrators of the late 19th century. A student of Jean-Léon Gérôme in Paris, he collaborated with the famous newspapers of the time: Le Chat noir, Le Courrier Français, L'assiette au beurre, in particular. A close friend of Toulouse-Lautrec, he was a historical chronicler-designer of Montmartre life during this period.
