Edouard Diot Pair Of Art Nouveau Armchairs 1900
Artist: Edouard Diot à Paris
A pair of large Art Nouveau armchairs, circa 1900, attributed to the Edouard Diot firm in Paris (see Sotheby's documentation). They feature a carved and molded mahogany frame with a floral-cutout backrest and contoured armrests ending in graceful scrolls; the structure rests on sabre legs at the rear and tapered legs at the front, joined by arched cross-stretchers. The seat and backrest are upholstered in burgundy faux leather. Excellent condition. Dimensions: 99.5 cm high x 67 cm wide x 51 cm deep; seat height 40 cm. REFERENCE: A model by Édouard Diot, according to Sotheby's, which previously auctioned a set of four chairs identical to these armchairs. This illustration serves as a particularly interesting point of comparison for assessing the quality of craftsmanship of our armchairs.
