Oil on canvas "Rest at the edge of the woods" signed lower right H. Champagne. French school. 28.5 X 37 cm. Hippolyte Champagne (1803-1883) was born in Carcassonne (Aude). The Carcassonnais was a student at the Ecole Royale des Beaux-Arts in Lyon and graduated in 1826. A forgotten painter, Champagne had nothing to envy the best members of the Barbizon School whose themes he adopted early on. Wooden frame and painted stucco (on a gilded background). Accidents to the frame. Canvas in good condition. 350 euros.
