Born April 21, 1900 in Turin, he spent part of his childhood, from 1908, in Marseille where his parents emigrated[1]. Back in Turin, at the age of 16, he had to work to support his parents[1]. He became a worker in the metal industry. His passion for the mountains led him to practice mountaineering in his free time and he achieved several firsts in the greatest Alpine massifs. He was admitted at the age of 23 as a member of the Italian Alpine Club (CAI) and was also a member of the French Alpine Club (CAF) and the High Mountain Gendarmerie Platoon (PGHM) in Chamonix[1],[2]. At the age of 27, having become an industrial designer[1], he decided, given the success of his first exhibitions, to devote himself entirely to painting. He was a member of the Society of Mountain Painters (SPM) from 1929[2]. He first settled in Courmayeur (Aosta), then in 1933 in Sallanches[1], where he built his own house in 1938, and of which he was named an honorary citizen in 1976[1]. He published his autobiography (original title: L'ultima tela) with Arthaud in 1976[3]. He died on September 10, 1985 in his adopted town[1].
