Arthur Calame received lessons from his father Alexandre and completed his artistic education with a two-year stay at the Düsseldorf Academy where he benefited from the teaching of Oswald Achenbach. He traveled to Italy, where he often reproduced landscapes. He exhibited in Geneva, Lyon, Dijon and Paris. He also executed some etchings. A view of San Giorgio Maggiore is exhibited at the Bern Museum.
