"Mahogany Secretary, Louis XVI Period – Late 18th Century"
This mahogany secretary opens at the waist with a drawer with a recess, highlighted with brass rods with an ogee, equipped with an authentic lock and drop handles. Below, the framed flap, darkened by a single panel also with a recess, is also equipped with a functional original lock with a brass entry. This flap is held open by two iron and brass compasses. The interior, darkened with a later fir green leather with a central motif, cold and gilded vignette, offers seven small drawers as well as a shelf offering two identical storage spaces. This period piece of furniture has, in the lower part, a double door in the same style and with a cover plate concealing a shelf. The uprights are half-columns joined with fluting ending in spinning top feet. The Belgian granite marble with a projection is in perfect condition. More than a simple secretary, this 18th century creation is a reflection of the mastery of cabinetmaking craftsmen during the reign of Louis XVI. ******** Period: Late 18th century Excellent condition.
